Curiosity Creativity

Creativity is not the possession of some special talent. It’s about the willingness to play. ~ John Cleese

I think not only is creativity about the willingness to play, but that it’s the result of curiosity. Curiosity becomes creativity becomes art. If we approach the world, our relationships, our art supplies with curiosity in our hearts will we have more creative, artistic lives? I think so.

I recently hosted a group of 16 amazing women in my studio for a painting party to celebrate their 25 years of book club. It filled my heart to hear them talk about all the titles they had read over those years, what they loved, what they didn’t. I love the chatter that happens while we’re spreading paint or poking wool. There’s magic in those moments and I was honored to help manifest it.

August has been full of beautiful, busy moments, and I am glad I gave my schedule some space to savor them.

That said, I’m eager to dive into Fall programming.

I’ll be expanding my workshop offerings here at the studio and with some fun community partners, and will be introducing some novel new ideas (like our cupcake embroidery event, so fun!). I hope you’ll keep an eye and come along if you can.

Workshops!

Coming up this Sunday at Campfire Bay Resort!

Oooh, one of my faves! I’m offering a needle felted mushroom workshop. These little cuties are great as ornaments, garlands, or in art pieces. This class is only $20. Sign up soon, HERE, I’ll close registration on Saturday.

I’ll be rolling out classes for Fall soon and would love your feedback. Is there something you’d like to see offered? Send me a message!

Events

Third Space is still on hiatus until September.

Open Studio Art Club was last week and we had a blast decorating cupcakes. Put the second Thursday of the month on your calendar from 6:00-8:00pm. It’s always free and fun. Bring a friend.

My run at the Brainerd Mainstreet Market has ended for the season, but there are still lots of amazing food and veg vendors. Do check it out on Fridays from 9:00-2:00.

I participated in the Saint Cloud Art Crawl last Friday and it was amazing. My friend Heidi Jeub of Heiju Arts was, as always, an artistic force. She had her Tiny School of Art and Design out and people could stop and draw in the cute downtown. I met many lovely arts-interested people that I can’t wait to see again when I go back in October.

The August Letter from a Lil Fish has landed in most mailboxes. In it I reminisced about my childhood, toad slumber parties, and jars of fireflies. I made a special toad card and carved little firefly stamps and painted their butts with glow in the dark paint so my readers could hang it up and have a glowing reminder of summer.

This has been such a fun project for me, dreaming up the themes and creating a little bit of everyday magic to share.

If you’d like to sign up for September you can do that anytime before the end of this month. Wouldn’t it be nice to find a little bit of happiness in your mailbox tucked between the junk mail and bills?

Yes! Sign me up!

I am so grateful for your support and cheers. If you think someone else might be interested in my journey, I’d be grateful if you would share with them.
